Free Webinar Opportunity - February 8, 2017
The use of Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICCs) has grown steadily. Their popularity, in part, reflects safety during insertion and convenience in placement. Despite these advantages, PICCs are also associated with risks including venous thromboembolism and catheter related bloodstream infection. To address concerns, a multidisciplinary panel of national and international experts met to generate guidance on when the use of a PICC may be appropriate in relation to other vascular access devices. From this panel, the Michigan Appropriateness Guide for Intravenous Catheters (MAGIC) was created to assist the bedside clinician to insert the correct catheter for the correct indication based upon available evidence.
