This will be updated this year to align with the 2024 Canadian Vascular Access and Infusion Therapy Guidelines

The Canadian Vascular Access and Infusion Therapy Guidelines are inclusive of many different healthcare settings, not just acute care. The Guideline Development Group represented national clinical leaders from all different aspects of healthcare environments. This was done intentionally so that the Guidelines can encompass a variety of healthcare situations that may have had gaps in direction previously for vascular access and infusion therapy. The CVAA Guidelines use the terminology “alternate care setting” to represent areas such as ambulatory, long-term, complex continuing, and community care.
The term “alternate care setting” is mentioned many times in the Guidelines when it is recommended to augment the plan of care based on this healthcare setting. These statements reflect the inclusion of the different needs that may be required in such settings, such as referring to patient visits as opposed to shift times or hours.
CVAA has compiled guideline statements from the 2019 Canadian Vascular Access and Infusion Therapy Guidelines to help you in your practice today.
