We are pleased to feature our new CVAA members and this week, we welcome Dexter Fedellaga from Surrey, BC.

1.    What is your current role/institution?
I am a critical care nurse employed as an anesthesia assistant at Surrey Memorial Hospital in British Columbia.

 2.    Why did you join CVAA?
I believe I have a responsibility to keep myself up to date with all aspects of patient care. Foremost to this, is the responsibility to properly care and safely perform  vascular access and infusions in line with current guidelines.  I think that CVAA is a good resource to acquire and share information concerning these matters.

3.    What features of the membership are you looking forward to utilizing?
I’m interested in utilizing webinars to get resources on current guidelines and best practices with regards to vascular access care and I find sosido a good tool in  acquiring and sharing information as well.

4.    Do you plan to attend the 2021 CVAA national conference in Winnipeg? Or virtually?
I would be interested in attending the 2021 CVAA national conference virtually.

5.    Are you considering writing the CVAA(c) certification exam?
Maybe, in the near future.

6.    Why are you passionate about vascular access/infusion therapy?
In working alongside the anesthesia team during surgery, I perform a lot and assist with various vascular access procedures including peripheral intravenous access, central line placement, and arterial line. I also encounter patients with indwelling access coming in for surgery like PICC and Hemodialysis catheters (Niagara catheters). I'm also responsible for initiating and maintaining various infusions intraoperatively.

7. What I am looking forward to this year?
In general, I would just like for this pandemic to be over and have our normality back. On the other end, something good has come out of this crisis. Most of our habits and practices were changed to mitigate its effect which made me realize that most of these practices should have been this way even before this pandemic.
