JOIN THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

This is an extraordinary opportunity for individuals who are passionate about CVAA’s mission and are interested in leadership, affecting change, and furthering the association.

There are several positions available at this time and all CVAA members are invited to apply. Board of Directors positions each carry a two (2) year term, unless otherwise listed. The available positions for 2027-2028 are:

  • 3 Directors
  • 1 Treasurer-Elect (Treasurer-Elect 2027, Treasurer 2028-2029, Past-Treasurer 2030)
  • 1 Student Ambassador
  • 1 Patient Liaison

Expectations for all Directors are in the Governance Manual here.
Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • Understand and demonstrate a commitment to CVAA, our mission and our programs
  • Keep up to date with issues and trends that affect the organization 
  • Prepare for meetings by reading agendas, minutes, reports and other documentation required to actively participate in them 
  • Contribute skills and knowledge by participating actively in meetings and committee work 
  • Work collaboratively as a team 
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the practice of vascular access/infusion therapy

Some key points and expectations for Directors for the 2027-2028 term:

  • are CVAA(c) certified or obtain the certification within first year of their term (Directors and Treasurer-Elect only)
  • participate in monthly Board meetings by videoconference
  • participate in other meetings and activities called for various issues, as required
  • attend the CVAA national conference, April 7-9, 2027 in Calgary, AB (expenses paid by CVAA)
  • attend a weekend meeting in early January 2027 - likely January 15-17, 2027, Toronto, ON (expenses paid by CVAA)

Treasurer-Elect (2027-2030)
Treasurer-Elect shall serve a four (4) year term as follows: one (1) year term as Treasurer-Elect (2027), two (2) years as Treasurer (2028 and 2029) and one (1) year as Past-Treasurer (2030). The Treasurer, with Treasurer-Elect/Past Treasurer, or designee, maintains adequate and appropriate financial records for CVAA, provides the financial report at annual meetings, and assists with preparation of an annual budget projecting income and expenditures for presentation to the Board of Directors in the manner and at the time prescribed by the Board and shall, in general, perform all duties and have all powers customarily incident to the office of Treasurer and such other duties and powers as may be prescribed by the President or Board of Directors.

Service on the CVAA Board of Directors is without remuneration, except for administrative support, travel, and accommodation costs in relation to duties. CVAA conference attendance is covered.

STUDENT AMBASSADOR

CVAA is accepting applications for a Student Ambassdor on the CVAA Board of Directors!

The Student Ambassador is a non-voting advisory position appointed by the CVAA Board of Directors. The position is designated for a student in full-time post-secondary education in the nursing field. The Student Ambassador will advocate for CVAA to students and new graduates and will provide the Board of Directors with a student perspective and education connections. The role will also include the promotion and continued development of the Vascular Access Student Club CVAA chapters, as well as acting as a liaison between the executive members of the Vascular Access Student Club CVAA chapters and CVAA National.

A Student Ambassador shall serve a two (2) year term of office and may not serve more than one (1) term. Attendance at monthly Board meetings via video conference and participation on committees are required.

PATIENT LIAISON

CVAA is accepting applications for a Patient Liaison on the CVAA Board of Directors!

CVAA Mission Statement: CVAA will advocate for safe, quality care across the healthcare continuum by providing leadership and empowering its members and the broader healthcare community to engage in education, partnerships, knowledge and research in vascular access and infusion therapy for optimal patient outcomes.

What is a Patient Liaison?
The Patient Liaison is a non-voting, advisory position appointed by the CVAA Board of Directors. The position is designated for a patient in the Canadian health care system. The Patient Liaison will advocate to the Board of Directors, on behalf of fellow patients, and will provide the Board of Directors with a patient perspective. 

Why Become a CVAA Patient Liaison? 
•    Be an active contributor to improving patient experience in vascular access and/or infusion therapy
•    Learn about best practices and clinical decision making in the field 
•    Free CVAA membership during term

Qualifications:
•    Person receiving long term infusion therapy and/or intermittent IV infusion requiring use of a vascular access device in the Canadian health care system
•    Supports the mission of CVAA 
•    Interest in patient advocacy
•    Knowledge or willingness to learn about vascular access and/or infusion therapy procedures, technologies, and challenges

Responsibilities:
•    Bring up concerns relating to patient care in vascular access and/or infusion therapy
•    Provide feedback on CVAA projects from a patient perspective
•    Represent patient perspective with a focus on quality care and patient safety in vascular access and/or infusion therapy
•    Help CVAA ensure that our initiatives align with improving patient experiences and outcomes

A Patient Liaison shall serve a two (2) year term of office and there is the possibility to extend the term by one (1) additional year.  Attendance is requested quarterly at Board meetings via video conference and in an ad-hoc capacity for projects, as required.

Service on the CVAA Board of Directors is without remuneration, except for administrative support, travel, and accommodation costs in relation to duties, if incurred.
