CURRENT NEWS

30
In our New Member Spotlight feature, we introduce you to some of the newest members to join CVAA.  Meet Leanna!

What is your current role/institution: I am in the Visit Nurse Program at Carefor Health and Community Services

Where are you located in Canada: Ottawa, ON

Why did you join CVAA: I joined CVAA to become more knowledgeable and aware of current research in regards to vascular access and to build upon what I learned in university as well as while attending the CVAA conference. I am also very interested the Vascular Access journal and with a membership I am able to obtain access to this resource.

What features of membership are you looking forward to utilizing: I would say that at this time I am most interested in the journals and webinars provided with this membership.

Are you considering writing the CVAA(c) certification exam:

I am interested in writing the exam, I have a few courses on the go right now, but will be looking to take this exam in the near future.

Why are you passionate about vascular access/infusion therapy: I am passionate about vascular access for a few different reasons. Firstly, as a new grad, I feel as though vascular access is an area of nursing in which I do not have a lot of hands-on experience (more now being in the community) and that by joining CVAA, attending chapter meetings and keeping as up to date with current research as possible I can ensure that the care I provide is supported by current evidence and therefore as safe and effective as possible. Secondly, my passion was heightened at the pre-conference workshop when Mark Rowe spoke to how little attention peripheral IVs often receive and how invasive they really are.  I have found that following graduation, working on Carefor's plenary presentation and attending the conference that I have become increasingly passionate and interested in vascular access and hope to continue to learn and grow as a member of CVAA.

What are you most looking forward to this summer in your personal life: This summer I am looking forward to working with Carefor in the community on my own (to date I have been working alongside a mentor), I have had such wonderful preceptors and am so thankful to have taken part in the New Grad Initiative Program, but I am anxious to begin this new chapter and challenge in my nursing career. I am also excited to spend sometime at home with my family and my adorable niece (she is 9 months old and just the sweetest!!! I miss her all the time).  I hope to take lots of hike and hopefully enjoy some of the wonderful concerts at this year's blues and jazz festivals!

SOSIDO FORUM

We're pleased to let you know that CVAA is participating in an online knowledge sharing network called Sosido (www.sosido.com). Sosido was created for and by healthcare associations, to speed knowledge transfer, promote collaboration, highlight the important work and research by members, and bridge silos by publicizing the contributions of each specialty group to the broader healthcare community. CVAA joins a growing network of associations and research groups on Sosido, including the Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology (CANO).

CVAA members will receive:

  • - A weekly email digest summarizing all activity in the CVAA community. You don’t have to log in to participate, and anything that’s important will come to your inbox, including:

  • - Updates on all publications authored by CVAA members that week. Sosido automatically delivers a current and complete snapshot of the work of our CVAA community.

  • - A summary of new articles released that week from journals chosen by you.

  • - Access to a secure CVAA members-only forum to ask and answer questions.

(Watch a slide tour of Sosido.)
